Ok now that I have your attention, I would like to address something that is bugging me more and more these last months, and this week got again a great (heart breaking) deal of attention. •

Even though science has proved it a million times over and over, our culture doesn't fully recognize that MENTAL DISEASE IS A BRAIN DISEASE, just like gastritis is a stomach disease. Depression (and bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, and mania and all these) affect our brain, the sole organ we use to make decisions. If you are suffering from suicidal depression, it doesn't matter how loved, successful or rich you are, because your brain tells you that despite all that suicide is the only option.

And that's why mental diseases can be fatal: they break the only part of our body that is responsible for our behaviour. If your arm was dislocated, you wouldn't hesitate to go to the orthopaedic. Now, if you have the slightest clue that your brain plays funny games to you, that it makes you inexplicably sad, boring around people you love and enjoy otherwise, violent, anything from flat, hollow and unendurable go see a psychologist. Or have your antennas ready for such behaviours in your beloved ones. It could be anything in the spectrum of mental diseases, and the faster it is registered and addressed, the quality of life of the aforementioned person will be elevated by leaps and bounds.

I constantly see so many well-intended, but misinformed comments about mental diseases. The more you educate yourself and realise that mental illness is NOT a personality trait, you can help people around you, and support them to seek the help they truly need! 'Cause you would never not go the orthopaedic because it is a tabboo. Please! ❤❤
